Mitty Mau Founder's Stories: Behind The Scene Of A Founder
People often ask me what it's like to own a clothing brand.
The short answer?
I wear many hats.
From 9 to 5, I work at my Corporate
America day job. In the evenings and on weekends, I work on building Mitty Mau.
A typical week might include:
Product Development
- Designing new products
- Researching fashion trends, fabrics, and styles
- Searching for artwork and developing design concepts
- Creating patterns and preparing tech packs for
manufacturers
- Working with manufacturers in the U.S. and overseas
- Reviewing samples, selecting fabrics, and placing
production orders
- Inspecting finished products when they arrive
Marketing & Content Creation
- Managing our Instagram community
- Creating and reviewing social media posts
- Writing blog articles and email newsletters
- Producing YouTube videos
- Photographing products and organizing model photo
shoots
Sales & Website
- Building and maintaining our website
- Reviewing website traffic and performance
- Running Meta and Google Ads
- Planning promotions and seasonal campaigns
- Participating in local pop-up markets and community
events
Order Fulfillment
- Packing and shipping every order
Ironically, this is one of the most
time-consuming parts of the business—but also the most rewarding. Every package
represents someone who chose to support our dream, and I never take that for
granted.
Business Administration
- Bookkeeping
- Paying bills
- Managing inventory
- Filing taxes
- Keeping everything running behind the scenes
Giving Back to the Community
One of the reasons I started Mitty
Mau was to support causes that matter deeply to me.
I'm grateful to be able to support organizations and initiatives that promote mental well-being, including NAMIWalks and Thriving Asians, while also participating in cat adoption events whenever I can.
I founded Mitty Mau almost two years
ago.
The journey of becoming a business
owner has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my
life.
Once again, I stepped outside my
comfort zone and pursued something I had always dreamed of but had never done
before.
From learning the basics of the
fashion industry to creating my very first tech pack...
From opening Canva for the first
time to publishing my first Instagram post...
From building our online store and
blog to creating content for social media...
From learning how to run digital ads
to selling both online and at local pop-up events...
I have learned more than I ever
imagined possible.
Sometimes people only see the finished product: a T-shirt, a website, or an Instagram post.
What they don't see are the
countless hours of learning, problem-solving, trial and error, and persistence
behind every small step forward.
Mitty Mau is still growing, much
like a little kitten finding its way in the world.
We have so much more to learn and so
many dreams ahead.
I'm incredibly grateful to everyone
who has supported us so far, and I'm excited to meet many more people who
believe in what we're building.
Thank you for being part of this
journey with us.
