A Story of a Young Cat Lover

Last Saturday, Mitty Mau participated in its second pop-up event at Ponce City Market.

As the founder, I was excited to meet our customers face to face. We opened our online store a little over a year ago, and only recently began stepping into our local community through in-person events.

As the day was coming to an end and I was about to pack up, a young girl approached my stand with her mother.

“I’m so sorry… but can we take a look at your shirts?” she asked gently.

“Of course,” I replied with a smile.

“Are you a cat lover?” I asked—my usual question.

Her eyes immediately lit up.
“Yes, I am. But I don’t have a cat right now. I want to get one after I go to college.”

I smiled. “That’s just like my daughter. She adopted a cat after moving out of her dorm. Our brand is actually named after her cat.”

“What grade are you in?” I asked.

“I’m a senior,” she said shyly. “I’m graduating in two weeks.”

“That’s amazing! Where are you going?”

Her face brightened.

“I’m going to Oglethorpe University. I’m going to study psychology.”

There was something special in the way she said it—clear, certain, full of purpose.

“That’s wonderful,” I told her. “Our brand’s mission is to support mental health awareness, to remind people to seek help, and to know they’re not alone.”

Her eyes sparkled.

“That’s exactly what I want to do. I want to help people.”

In that moment, everything felt aligned.

A young woman who loves cats.
A future devoted to helping others.
A quiet but powerful sense of purpose.

This is exactly what Mitty Mau stands for:

You are not alone.
There is hope.
There is light.

She chose a dark pink Cartoon Cat T-shirt, one for herself and one for her mom. It was the day before Mother’s Day.

I could see the joy on her face, and the quiet pride in her mother’s eyes.

More Than a Shirt

At Mitty Mau, we don’t just create cat-themed clothing.

We create comfort.

We create connection.

We create small moments of emotional safety.

Because sometimes, healing doesn’t come in big breakthroughs;
it comes in quiet, gentle reminders:

  • You are seen
  • You are supported
  • You are not alone

A Quiet Wish

As they walked away, I felt grateful.

Grateful that this small encounter mattered.
Grateful that our message reached someone who truly understood it.

And in my heart, I sent her a quiet wish:

May you follow your calling.
May you help many.
And may you always carry light, with or without a cat by your side.
