What Are You Grateful For?
November is the month of Thanksgiving. My grandma used to say, “A joyful heart comes from contentment.” And she was right—when we choose gratitude, happiness naturally follows.
So, what are you grateful for?
As for me, I am grateful for many things.
I am grateful for my family—my husband, my
children, my parents, and my brother.
I am grateful for my cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
I am grateful for my friends, my neighbors, my brothers and sisters in church,
my coworkers, and my bosses.
I am grateful for my job, my income, my health, my home, my neighborhood, and my country.
I am even grateful for the difficulties I’ve faced, because they have made me stronger.
I am grateful for the people who hurt me, because they helped me grow and
taught me about humanity.
I am grateful for the illness I live with, because it reminds me to appreciate
what I have.
I am grateful for both the roses and the thorns, because together they teach me
to see beauty with awe.
I am grateful for thunderstorms, because they
make the sunshine feel brighter.
I am grateful for the cold winter, because it gives nature time to rest and
renew.
We are grateful for the blessings in our lives—the obvious ones and the hidden ones.
We are grateful for the good that happens to us.
We are grateful for the bad that happens to us, because things could always be
worse.
We are grateful for our struggles, because they remind us how fortunate we
still are.
When we count our blessings—both the smooth
and the rough—we learn to accept, appreciate, and marvel at the miracle of
life.
Life is beautiful. Life is full of colors.
If there were no darkness, how could we
recognize the light?
If the road were always flat, how could we enjoy life’s ups and downs?
If there were no evil, how could we recognize an angel?
If there were no pain, how could we learn endurance?
In this season of Thanksgiving, we pause to
count our blessings. We give thanks for what we have—and even for what we don’t
have.
Because what we have right now is what we are
meant to have in this moment.
